Bob Lyon
Island Promos self-proclaimed “Director of Satisfaction” Bob Lyon is a running shoe kind of guy – not a shock, considering his high energy level! He’d choose to be “The Incredible Jagger” if he could be a superhero and picks the hilarious high school hijinks movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High as his favorite. Righteous, Dude!

Mark Landis
Since Mark Landis’ day job is working at Paddle & Putt, and stand-up paddleboarding is his lifestyle, it’s obvious he enjoys his days on the water. He certainly can be characterized as a flip-flop kind of guy due to his love of the surf. In fact, he says if he could choose another career, he’d be a pro surfer. While the best superhero to represent Mark might be the Silver Surfer, he says he learned perseverance, faith and courage you can see from his daughter, Connor Landis.

Bo Chambliss
Braveheart is the movie that tops Georgia Theatre Company’s Bo Chambliss’ list of favorites, with Gladiator following as a close second. If Bo could be any superhero, he’d channel his inner
Tony Stark to be Iron Man. Failing that, a dream job as a trader on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange would be nice.

Carl McManamy
Retiree Carl McManamy says it’s a toss-up between classic dress shoes or running shoes for him. Maybe golf shoes and a day on the links would be more appropriate, as he would choose an alternate career as a touring golf pro playing out of Sea Island.

Hutch Eisen
Retired radiologist Hutch Eisen gets extra points from the ladies for naming his wife as his favorite superhero. That’s exactly what women want to hear! He’d choose red wine over white and his favorite movie is Blazing Saddles, because it’s irreverent and was way ahead of its time. He adds, “I always identified with Mongo.”

Don Maxey
“Uncle” Don Maxey is a professed dog lover and THE perfect Shoe Guy for suggesting that if he could choose another career it would be a toss-up between a sommelier and a women’s shoe salesman. The women who have inspired him: “My wife, Hollie. She is my rock. My mom, and my two daughters, they inspire me to be the best that I can be...always.”

Scott Steilen
Sea Island’s Scott Steilen knows it’s cliché to want to be a professional athlete, but says he wouldn’t mind being a ski patrol. The weather here does limit that as an option. Although Scott chooses running shoes to best represent him, it isn’t due to his speed, because, he admits, “I always loved Flash, probably because I was never fast.” In addition to his wife and his mother, he cites the women of Sea Island as personal inspiration, saying, “Every day I get to see their smiles, their passion, and their dedication in action, it literally gives me goose bumps.”

Dave Snyder
Halyards/Tramici owner, chef, and charter fisherman Dave Snyder loves nothing more than to spend a day on the water. He’s a dog lover, “although Gustavo says he likes cats … because they taste like chicken.” Women who have inspired him include: his mother; single mothers “who somehow make it all work for their kids,” and Kiera, a 4’10” line cook at Union Square Café who stands on a milk crate while she works to reach plates and equipment because “Nothing would stop her from improving.”

Bill Norrett
Bill Norrett has the right idea when it comes to making a choice between red and white wine: “Color doesn’t matter, as long as it’s old. The older, the better.” His shoe preference is the comfortable style of classic loafers. No laces! When asked which superhero he’d choose to be, he shared a secret: “I already am one! Just ask my wife and kids. I’d be me!” Shhhh. Don’t tell!

Gordon Strother
It’s no surprise to hear that Gordon Strother is a flip-flop kind of guy who enjoys a day that includes a boat ride over to the “Rah” Bar at Jekyll Island. Could you see him as a jazz pianist? That’s what this part-time island musician would choose as an alternate career if he could. If you want a good laugh, Dodgeball is Gordon’s movie of choice.

David Butler
While “elegance” might be what Elegant Island Living Publisher David Butler does for a living, he’s really more of a flip-flops and beach guy. “They’re like the mullet of footwear: business up top, party on the feet.” If he could choose another career, he’d love to be the announcer on The Price Is Right. Yeah … we can see that. “Daaaaaaaavid Butler …Come on down!”

David Richardson
Advance Rehabilitation Clinic Director David Richardson is a physical therapist and a former college athlete, so of course he’s best characterized by a running shoe. If he could have any other job, he’d be an orthopedic surgeon. Despite having a veritable menagerie at home with wife, Christie, David is a dog lover who likes his wine red and a casual day at home with a movie marathon of The Bourne Trilogy. But perhaps David has a little Bruce Banner inside him – if he could be any superhero, he’d choose to be The Hulk.

Andy Broderick
Real estate appraiser Andy Broderick prefers a good red wine and says the shoes that best represent him are hunting boots. If he could be any superhero, he’d be Superman. With his all-American good looks and Southern charm, he’d put Clark Kent to shame! You know he’s got a great sense of humor to go with that easy smile because his favorite movie is Office Space.

Jay Buchert
Jay Buchert has been in construction for 40 years so you could say construction boots are his way of life, but he is quick to point out that when he goes out, it is classy shoes all the way. His wine of choice is red, leaning toward a merlot and an occasional Riesling. He recently saw Lone Survivor and deems it his new favorite movie. An avid beach walker, Jay says if he could have had any other career, he would have been a trial attorney.

Jonathan Jerusalmy
Sea Island chef Jonathan Jerusalmy says he’d be a pro golfer if he could choose another career, and prefers a day on the links to either a day at the beach or on the water. Showing refined taste that matches his superior culinary skills, Jonathan’s favorite movie is the portrayal of Mozart’s life by Tom Hulce: Amadeus.

Steve Squire
Anesthesiologist Steve Squire prefers a cold beer to red or white wine and enjoys days on the
boat, waterskiing and at the beach with his wife and 3 awesome kids. He’s always on the go, runs marathons, and finished his first triathlon last year, so running shoes would represent him well, but he confesses he defaults to flip- flops in the summer because “I’m a pretty simple guy, anything in the sun works for me.” If he could be any superhero, he’d be Thor, because that big hammer is pretty cool.
Move over, Cinderella! The Golden Isles has a whole crop of “Prince Charmings” who have stepped up for a good cause, a new kind of fundraiser to benefit Hospice of the Golden Isles. Local ladies will get their chance to be treated like a princess when the Wine, Women & Shoes event comes to town. Combining a couple things that virtually every woman loves with some hunky Shoe Guys carrying silver platters, this female-focused twist on wine pairings is the brainchild of Napa Valley vintner Elaine Honig. Now in its 9th year, WW&S events have taken place in more than 38 cities across the country and have raised in excess of 15 million dollars for various charities. Impressive.
WW&S promises to be the most fun “girls' day out” around! On Saturday, February 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., The Cloister at Sea Island will play host, serving a luncheon and providing the luxurious setting in which attendees will mingle, enjoy and learn about fine wines, shop designer styles in the fashion marketplace, and see a fashion show of spring styles. Just looking at the list of national partners and vineyards associated with WW&S is exciting. The anticipation for the first event of its kind in the Golden Isles is already buzzing. Tickets are on sale now for $100 per person, $150 for VIP treatment that includes access to a VIP lounge and preferred seating for the luncheon and fashion show. You can enjoy the VIP experience with 7 of your closest friends, plus a Shoe Guy dedicated to your table for $1,500. Call your girlfriends, arrange your sitters, and reserve your tables now to sip and shop!
The winery sponsors demonstrate a wide range of varietals. Justin is a classic family-owned and run vineyard in California’s Central Coast. Ferrari has established itself as the premier source of luxury metodo classico sparkling wines from Italy. New Age from Argentina touts the non-traditional method of drinking their wine on the rocks with a twist. One Hope boasts an award winning portfolio of wines produced in partnership with Rob Mondavi, Jr. that makes an impact with every bottle sold by donating half of the profits to partner causes. The fashion is guaranteed to be fabulous and eclectic with sponsors that include Nomad-Chic, Alma Handbags, and Lisa Mackey Design. Local sponsors for the event include Southeast Georgia Health System, Hodnett Cooper, and Island Day Spa. Sponsorship opportunities are still available
But if all of that isn’t enough to peak your interest, ladies, there are the Shoe Guys! You’ll feel like the belle of the ball with these handsome well-known gents from the community bringing you sophisticated and trendy shoes paired with vineyard selections on silver serving trays. Yes, many of them are on loan from their wives for the day, but there are a few bachelors in the bunch too. Who needs roses when you have stilettos and shiraz or booties and bubbly? EIL took a minute to get up and personal with these fellas (who wouldn’t?!) and they shared their thoughts about wine, women, shoes, movies, and pets—the important stuff in life. Flip through the feature, and get to know some of your WW&S Golden Isles Shoe Guys.
