Whether Dad is firing up the grill on Father’s Day, the family is gathering for a Juneteenth Jubilee or you’re having a 4th of July picnic, these recipes spotlight the fresh fruit and garden veggies that are plentiful through the summer.
What’s in season in June? Georgia peaches are at their peak and we still have blueberries coming in. The farm stands and farmers markets will have ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, and bell peppers. Don’t forget to treat Dad to a special meal like our Grilled Honey Chipotle Salmon Packs on Father’s Day, June 16. Red Velvet Cupcakes are ideal to take to any Juneteenth celebration on June 19. In July, get as much fresh corn as you can, so you can eat corn on the cob and use those sweet kernels in salads — maybe freeze some for later too! The Mexican Street Corn Dip is a big hit at parties and backyard BBQs! Okra, tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash are still plentiful. In August, melons are at their peak, so we have a Honey Mint Melon Salad you’ll want to eat every day. Kids won’t even notice that healthy veggies are hidden in the Chocolate Zucchini Muffins you can bake for breakfast or an after-school treat as they head back to the classroom.
