In January of this year, 36-year-old Brunswick native Cosby Johnson was sworn in as the 60th mayor of the City of Brunswick. This native son was raised by an educator and a veteran who instilled in him the importance of service and community. An amiable independent who ran under the platform of “Building a Better Brunswick,” Johnson strives to represent the voice of the people and is passionate about being a good steward.

Brunswick Mayor Cosby Johnson
Johnson is a proud BHS Pirate and graduated from Valdosta State University before beginning a career in government. He serves as Vice President for Government Affairs for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and was influential in lobbying the Georgia legislature to pass a hate crimes bill and to repeal the state’s citizen’s arrest law. Johnson is only the city’s second Black mayor, following his predecessor Cornell Harvey, who held the office since 2014 and served on the Brunswick City Council for a decade prior to that. Government accountability and transparency, education, and economic development have been identified by Johnson as his top priorities. He’s already making great strides!
